MANADO, INDONESIA - Billabong, Australian surf and beach lifestyle brand, is stoked to announce the opening of its first-ever concept store in Manado. The city’s name (derived from the Minahasan Language) translates to “on the far coast” and is largely known for its unique mix of the metropolis and biodiversity. Strategically located at Manado Town Square, one of the city’s most bustling shopping destinations, this is the brand’s third concept store opened in partnership with PT Navya Retail Indonesia.

Billabong, the brainchild of surfer and surfboard shaper Gordon Merchant, is named after the Aboriginal word for “wilderness watering hole.” The name itself is meant to symbolise a proud Australian heritage, which is fitting considering the very first pair of Billabong boardshorts was created on Gordon’s kitchen table in Gold Coast, Australia, in 1973. Back then, surf shorts often felt restrictive to the wearer, and their seams disintegrated after prolonged contact with salt water. Seeing that gap for quality-produced boardshorts in the market spurred Gordon to develop surf-specific styles with triple-stitched seams, high-strengthened threads, stainless steel snaps and a cut that made surfers feel free in the water.

With that, Billabong’s legacy was born. Since 1973, it has been the brand’s mission to inspire youth through progressive boardsport culture where everyone “knows the feeling.” All this is clearly articulated in the brand’s progressive range of boardshorts, bikinis, wetshirts, wetsuits, tees, singlets, walkshorts, dresses, overswim, accessories and more. Today, Billabong has over 500 stores worldwide and is also highly regarded as the world’s leading surf and beach lifestyle brand.

In celebration of the store’s opening, Billabong is giving away a bikini bag with any Women’s garment purchase anda free cap or wallet with any Men’s garment purchase.
