Chasing Gita

It was a normal Tuesday afternoon in Kuta when I received a phone call from my bro Rizal, who was on the Gold Coast at the time. He had been in Noosa with young guns Bronson Meydi and Varun Tandjung hanging out with the Hurley crew at Julian Wilson’s annual kids' surf event. #JWseriousfun

“You should come here, the waves are gonna be good. The cyclone is on the way....” Rizal told me on the phone. I told him that I will look into flights. Thursday morning Rizal had briefed me on the weather forecast for the weekend on the Gold Coast, “It’ll be worth it to come for this swell. Jason Childs is here shooting and I will be filming.” He told me. I left for the Gold Coast the next day on Malindo Airlines. Very impressed with Malindo Airlines, good service and no extra charge for surfboards.

Arrived at Brisbane airport, I had eggs and avocado on toast before I continued to the Gold Coast. As we drove up the hill overlooking the superbank I could not believe what I was seeing. Cyclone Gita is delivering the goods. The waves were connecting from Snapper all the way down to Kirra. I couldn't get out fast enough. I rode my 5'4 twin fin for the first session. Not used to such long rides, my leg muscles were burning from the build-up of lactic acid. The next few days were a blur, we had non stop swell and perfect conditions. Surfed our brains out and hopped on a flight back to Bali.

Thanks to all the Snapper Rock boys for the good times. See you, boys, next year!
