Rockin’ The Soundrenaline 2018 The Soul of Expression

The biggest music and art festival in South East Asia, Soundrenaline 2018, has ended and all visitors have experienced best 2-days music festival so far. Held in Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park from 8 - 9 September 2018, various musicians within Indonesia and also international were entertaining the Soundrenaline visitors all day.

Go Ahead Challenge, part of the Soundrenaline 2018 program, was giving new musicians to compete for a collaboration performance at one of the stage. Some of them who were lucky are toRa, which performed with Laze at the Slim Refine Stage Soundrenaline 2018, and Logic Lost, which performed with Kimo.

Many Balinese musicians participated in the festival, such as Navicula, Dialog Dini Hari which collaborated with Scaller, The Hydrant, Bali emerging psychedelic rock band Rollfast, and Zat Kimia. This year was the third time for Zat Kimia to perform at Soundrenaline. “This year’s Soundrenaline is more artistic compared to previous years. The Creator’s Museum shows cool installation artworks and artistic stage.” Said Ian, lead vocalist of Zat Kimia.

The Hydrant, the rockabilly pioneer in Indonesia that just returned from Las Vegas a few months ago, was also part of the line up at Soundrenaline 2018. Having been participating in Soundrenaline for several years, The Hydrant gave an entertaining performance on the first day. “We always perform on different stages every time in Soundrenaline. We like to interact with our audience because they come to be entertained by us. I’m so excited to meet with the audience.” Said Shello, lead vocalist of The Hydrant.

Some of the line up for this year’s Soundrenaline were Tension (Australia), Hujan (Malaysia), Zee Avi (Malaysia), Yellow Fang (Thailand), and Phum Viphurit (Thailand). Indonesian musicians such as Maliq & D'Essentials, Mocca, Navicula, Padi Reborn, Semiotika, Seringai, Shaggy Dog, Sheila on 7, The Adams, The SIGIT, Pee Wee Gaskin, Endank Soekamti, Endah N Rhesa, Eden Band, Efek Rumah Kaca, Elephant Kind, Fourtwnty, Pusakata, Silampukau, Sisitipsi, Teddy Adhitya, The Pantura, The Hydrant, Theory of Discotic, Tony Q Rastafara, Wake Up, Iris!, Zat Kimia, Rayssa Dynta, Rollfast, Rubah di Selatan, Scared of Bums, Sentimental Moods, Jogja Hip-hop Foundation, Kelompok Penerbang Roket, Gemalara, Heals, Hip Hop Hore, Hurt 'Em, Jason Ranti, and Kimokal.

Sheila On 7, which performed at the closing day 1 of Soundrenaline, got huge success. The main A Stage was pack and full with people of all ages. From “Pejantan Tangguh” to “Dan”, the song that brought Sheila On 7 to the national stage, the audience was singing together with the Sheila On 7 songs, the songs of their life.

The highlight at the end of Soundrenaline was Limp Bizkit, one of a legendary rapcore rock band from the United States, which performed for the first time in Indonesia. Sang “Thieves” from Ministry and “Hot Dog” at the opening of their performance, Limp Bizkit has succeeded taking the audience travel back in time to the days where Limp Bizkit songs were their everyday soundtrack of life. Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle), My Way, My Generation, Break Stuff and Take A Look Around were some of the songs they played at the festival.

Something new in this year’s Soundrenaline was the Creator’s Museum which showed installation artworks from young Balinese artists. Aligned with “The Soul Expression” theme, these young Balinese artists transformed the theme into coolest artworks for the visitors to enjoy. “Penari Baris Tunggal” artworks, which went viral in social media, was an art collaboration between I Made Aswino Aji, Agus Mediana, Ngurah Udianata, and the villagers in Tampak Siring, using bamboo as the materials. “The dancer (penari) is part of Soundrenaline and also part of the visitors, who are enjoying the festival.” Said Agus Mediana, the artist. The rest of the artworks were “The Monument” by Uji Hahan, “Rigor Samsa” by Erwin Windu Pranata, and “The Ego Invasion” by I Made Aswino Aji.

Soundrenaline 2018 has given the best music party for everyone. And it was successfully embracing the young creators in music and art to express themselves at the event. We can’t wait to see the next breakthrough in Soundrenaline!
